B.F. Goodrich Company was Founded by Dr. Benjamin Franklin Goodrich in 1870, now known as BFGoodrich. BFGoodrich is one of the first rubber tire manufacturers started in Akron, Ohio in 1870 as Goodrich, Tew & Co.

In 1869, Goodrich had purchased the Hudson River Rubber Company. Based in Akron, Ohio, the BFGoodrich Company started as a manufacturer of rubber hoses, most of them were sold as firehoses. The company also produced rubberized belts, similar to serpentine belts (fan belt) which are used in modern cars. As the company was getting bigger, it began to make pneumatic bicycle tires, and there for the production of pneumatic automobile tires started in 1896, making BFGoodrich the first company in the United States to manufacture this type of tire.

Competitors like Goodyear, Firestone, General and Uniroyal were in the business as well but, with the research and scientific procedures used for tire wear evaluation and longevity testing, BFGoodrich was the leader of the industry. Ford Motor Company, picked BFGoodrich tires to be used in the 1903 Model A Ford. With teamwork accomplishment The 1903 Model A Ford was the first car to cross the United States all the way from east to west, making BFGoodrich a household name.
